We were contracted to find a solution for the removal of a stuck propeller shaft bearing.
The ship repair company had been battling for days without progress.
The vessel was a large bulk carrier named The Great Tang and standing costs were adding up. The solid metal bearing could just not be removed by conventional means.
We devised a jacking system that involved the drill and threading of multiple holes, making place for the fitment of high tensile draw bars and jacking ring. This allowed for heating and jacking out of bearing.
The solution was successfully executed working off a floating platform in Durban Harbour.
